She even took the toaster

So you might have noticed some minor changes around here. Nothing too big but it was a time for a bit of a change. After owning Idoru for a bit more then a decade now and having used the same design for approximately 7 to 8 years it was time to see what else I could do. At the time it was a great design and coded very well (thanks to an ex of mine) but I had turned into a fairly hodgepodge mess over the years and it was much easier to start from scratch.

The good news: Its now more internally coherent, there should be much fewer (if any) template problems or things just looking like crap. (See the gallery from last time). Its also more streamlined and actually functional from a back end perspective. Whether that means I will use it more or not I don’t know.

The indifferent news: Some of the old sections are dead. I never used them and neither did anybody else. Out with the old, in with the new. I am also not completely sold on the header image (if nothing else I need to put a name on it) but as of the moment its whats there. Thoughts?

The bad news: The gallery is also gone. I might take a look around and see what else I can come up with that serves a similar but more streamlined purpose but as of right now, its kaputsky.

I still need to go around and do some general cleanup (in addition to removing the old stuff) but for the moment this is Idoru. Give me thoughts, opinions, feedback, death threats or whatever else.

May day she says shes leaving

After we made it through the rainy season

Welcome to 2012, the year of the apocalypse! Well, I don’t actually believe that but it makes for a somewhat catchier title the something about the year of our savior and all that.

The holiday season is over now and I really don’t mind that. I enjoy the holidays for the most part but at the same time its kinda nice to have them all over and get back to whatever is standard. Get back into a routine and rock the world apart.

Christmas was mostly good. Spent the eve with family as normal, then drinks at the Irish bar with an old buddy of mine. He is doing well for himself after getting his law degree. Its interesting to see that the recession has hit lawyers to a certain extent as well since he is having issues getting a full time job but at the same time I am not too surprised. While I am sure he is a good lawyer (I haven’t had a reason to find out for sure obviously), I think more people are trying to keep their head down and out of trouble.

Christmas day was more family time and then battlefield 3 in the evening. I was supposed to go out with friends but that just didn’t seem to happen as is so often the case these days. Sometimes I think its me but then I remember everybody is busy as hell these days and trying to make it through the day.

Did Christmas with the lady on the following Tuesday as she has been recovering from some health issues. Thankfully she seems to be recovering and the general consensus was that it was worth it, not that there was much choice. Anyway, she took me out for a dinner to somewhere very nice (wouldn’t tell me where it was ahead of time), somewhere very nice indeed. We exchanged presents which for the most part I won’t talk about but I will mention that she got me another watch. A very interesting white watch, all ceramic, that you can, for the moment, see over to the left.

In terms of presents as a whole I made off just fine. Some slippers, some cash, some gift cards, some bike stuff, etc. I like to think that the recipients of my gifts were happy with what they were given as well. So thats all done.

New Years is also over and I did my standard “Stay home, have a beer and play video games” that i do every new years. I have no real interest in going out on new years in the first place and its just not worth the risk. Amateur night, the first fresh snow in a while, tons of law enforcement doing their job… yeah just not interested in being out in that mess. So I got a rank in battlefield and called it a day.

In terms of video games I have been pretty much playing nothing other then BF3 which I have mentioned a few times. Overall it seems like a decent game but I do wish that dice would stop releasing patches to it every other week. Let people play and let them adapt. Plus I don’t think that there are really that many balance issues. I do expect to hit level 45 today and maybe max out my recon class after I take care of some things around the abode. Mainly laundry.

So what do I hope for the new year? I dunno, it might be the year that I finally get a new job, I might get a new (to me) car… I really don’t know what 2012 will bring me and honestly thats what makes it so exciting to me. Its why I am looking forward to it so much more then I have in some years previously. Sounds cheesy as shit but I am excited to see where I go this year. Don’t get me wrong, 2011 was fantastic, I loved the hell out of it and can’t think of anything I would change about it. Lets see if I have the same feeling about 2012 as I did about last year I guess.

Heres hoping.
