So, unfortunately Twitter has decided that they want to be arrogant. And when I say they want to be arrogant I mean that they are being more arrogant then I would have possibly guessed considering, at its core, twitter is a pointless service. Its something that, aside from name value, can’t really be monetized. If you rally want to know more, look here because, quite frankly I don’t feel like re-hashing it. I don’t fault them for trying to take back some control of their network. I do fault them for the heavy handed display requirements (No thanks, they are hideous) and for eliminating any easy way to display tweets.
Really that’s all I want to do. I want to display the tweets I send on my website. It can be argued that my tweets aren’t owned by me however they are public information, that much is clear. My website is something I own and pay for out of my pocket. Twitter doesn’t get a say in how it looks or behaves. There is no room for negotiation on that point with any entity as far as I am concerned. As a result tweets will no longer be displayed until somebody smarter then I am comes up with a workaround. Or rather several workarounds most likely. Instead there is a link as I can’t really do much better, which makes me sad. The fact of it is, the initial reason I signed up for twitter (approx 3,300 tweets ago) was for idoru. Or, more specifically, so I didn’t have to update Idoru with every minor detail.
Let me be clear: If you have a twitter, its probably best to simply follow me. You get my tweets that way (to ignore as always I am sure). If you do not have a twitter account, the link to the right will take you to my twitter account where you can read it and not care because its merely 140 characters of … whatever really. I also do NOT know whether this will lead to me being more active on idoru. I refuse to promise anything.
I must say that I am quite disappointed that twitter decided to go this route.
