Sweet Sweet Acceleratron

Monday, November 27th, 2006

The weather was rather nice last week so I took the bike out a few times. Wednesday after work, Thursday to and from work and thanksgiving and then again on Sunday after giving it a good thorough wash. Seems like its time for my baby to be put to bed for a few months though. Makes me sad to think about but on the other hand its the moderately sane thing to do. While I am not particularly sane, the prospect of riding a motorcycle in a MN winter with mostly bald tires and a whole lot of salt and sand on the road is unappealing to even me. Interesting side not however. Everybody says that the Harley riders are the hardcore riders but since the end of October I have seen 1 Harley on the road and many more metric cruisers. Says something but I aint going to go there.

In regards to Mike’s comment about what thanksgiving was like… Well lets just have me quote myself here:

“What an odd thanksgiving. 5 out of the six cousins 3 with significant others (the three female cousins), my parents, my uncle and his wife and two aunts all on my dads side, and my maternal grandfather. My grandfather had another one of his episodes which kinda put a damper ont eh mood.

The family was highly impressed with my bike, which was fun. Even my aunt the nurse like it (so long as I wear proper safety equipment!). I think my personal highlight was checking one of the pockets on my jacket and having a condom fall out in front of my uncle and cousin. That was good comedy since I think only my cousin noticed.

All in all… odd.

I want to go get drunk.”

That really does about sum up my thanksgiving experience. Even better I went out on thanksgiving day, as is my wont, with a crowd of about 15 of us and, you guessed it, got drunk. William’s/The Peanut Bar (about 70 taps in The Peanut Bar ranging in size from regular mug to litre to pitcher) in uptown. I had two different girls buy me drinks. I am down with that.

In other news, my MP3 player is indeed very sexy and very awesome. Excellent purchase and I am once again pleased with Creative. If anybody out there is looking for one, I highly recommend Creative, they have been great for the most part and I like em a lot. However I recommend Amazon or some other online retailer as I got my player and a 2 year service agreement for less then I would have paid through either Creative or Best buy.

Work is stressful and busy and oh god way to much of it. I have worked Monday through Saturday for the past two weeks. The main advantage I have is that its not always full shifts. And its semi-sporadic. On the other hand, I did work thanksgiving day. That kinda sucked. There is however the matter of bonuses and such and that’s always nice.

In completely unrelated news, I am playing Shadow of the Colossus which is simply Epic. The entire game feels very epic and cool. The difficulty is lacking somewhat however. I am less then 3 hours into the game and I have 6 of the 16 Colossi defeated already. Still a very cool game and I recommend it.

Now some of you might remember that my car was named, at one point, the acceleratron. Ok, probably nobody remembers that since it was years ago and I doubt Money Bitch, Bitch Bitch, or House Bitch reads this or even knows of it. That’s not the point that I am aiming for here however. My car has been having some issues lately. Nothing safety related or endangering to the life of the car. However it has made me realize that its time to start seriously considering a new car. Mind you I am intending to drive my beautiful acceleratron into the ground if possible (that 30 MPG city is just too damn good!) but its consideration time. Currently I am looking at the Scion tC but no guarantees on that one. However if anybody else has any recommendations that would be great. Japanese and >$15k used are my two points at the moment. Also considering a civic and some other cars. Afraid the Maserati is just out of my price range at the moment.

I also have to figure out what to do concerning Christmas. My sister invited us down to Wausau WI but I am not keen on that idea personally. Hard enough to spend 4 hours with my family much less 36 hours. Also have ethical objections to leaving my grandfather alone on Christmas so that’s something else I am considering. He may be demented (in the clinical sense of the word) but he is still family.

I think that about wraps things up in my life at the moment.

*edit* I updated some miscellaneous things around the site. The only thing you might notice is the webcam shit. Its of noticeably lower quality but its much more convenient for just general useage. I will also be boring as sin for most of you. Other then that the “At the moment” page was updated and thats most of everything.

Odds and Ends

Its busy being one of those weeks, if you know what I mean. Or perhaps its been one of those weeks? I really dunno. Spending a lot of time thinking about stuff which doesn’t really make anything easier but its a decent way to pass the time I suppose.

I have been playing Shadow of the Colossus (well ok, I have played like an hour of it) and I am truly enjoying it except for the camera. And I have some hopes that the difficulty will ramp up a bit. Sure I may only be about 1/8th of the way through the game, but so far I have had no real difficulty. Its a cool game though.

I also bought a new MP3 player recently, as in about 2 hours ago. Amazon should have it to me on Wednesday and I can not fucking wait. Especially since work is picking up with a quickness and it seems that I will be spending a lot of time there. Might mean some extra money. Certainly means extra stress. But at least the next two months or so should move very quickly.

That about wraps things up for right now. Not much going on in this world of mine right now.

Its odd but sometimes when I wake up in the morning I look over and see that my bedroom door is open and I flip out for a second until I finish waking up and realize that its not my apartment door, just the bedroom door. I suppose I could wonder if there is something too that or what but I prefer to think that its just my still asleep brain.

Needless to say this happened to me today. The older I get the harder it is for me to adjust to daylight savings time changes. I used to just snap to it but these days I drag for a bit. On the other hand I have been more productive this week in the evenings then normal so that’s something.

Work actually started picking up as of today. I spent 9 hours with my ass firmly planted in a chair working as opposed to my normal 5 hours or so a day sitting there, some of it killing time online. In some ways its nice in others it would have been nice to have gotten a bit more warning. However at least now I know that tomorrow is going to suck as well, so that’s warning. I don’t really mind working like that, it does provide me with some interesting puzzles but it is, at times, very aggravating. Especially when I am the only with a work load thats at all intense. Its not a love/hate thing instead its something more intense and faster cycling. Upsides and downsides.
I am not sure whether I am posting this to prove Jay wrong or whether its just a fringe benefit but he loses $30! To … um, somebody. That’s really about all I got with that particular topic so moving right along now.

I managed to get my computer fixed on the two aforementioned issues. One of the problems was caused by me forgetting to enable 1 thing. The other issue was due to the actual distribution itself. For some reason they used a crippled driver for my ghetto ass video card, so crippled in fact that it prohibited any rendering of, well, anything. Thankfully some poor sap who has more free time then myself managed to figure out a way around it and provided a patch. Open-source really can be incredibly for the win. It is also intensely lame at times. You just have to understand that going into it.

The next few issues I want to deal with are sending mail from my palm pilot, being able to post using this small piece of software without a title (actually going to experiment with that a bit soon) and getting a usb hub so that I can keep more then just my mouse and my palm jacked into this machine. Exciting times, let me assure you.

In unrelated news, its rather odd to open a package from a friend and the first thing you pull out is a piece of paper that is dealing with Haz-mat. Sure, I know she works in Haz-mat shipping and all of that jazz, but its intensely strange. Even odder when you know that its cookies that are inside it. That’s right, cookies. Hazardous to my waistline, but I can inhale them safely. Unless the Haz-mat sheet is correct. If it is i should be dead though.

I have also had this strange craving for bread pudding for the last day or two but I can’t find the recipe that I have had.
