No matter what you say, we’re gonna get back up again.

No matter what you do, we’re gonna stand back up again.

So again around this time of year Idoru falls into disrepair as I start cranking out a ton of things in my life. I think the winter (or rather approaching winter) makes me want to be super busy in an effort to catch up on all of the things I neglected during the summer while I was out, you know, having fun and shit. So lets hit some highlights from the past three weeks or so.

About two weeks ago I picked up ODST to expand my game library and to play something with my buddy Trevnor who finally came over to the dark side and picked up a 360. Have to say, he had made me wary of purchasing it and I did find it wholly ironic that he is the reason I ended up picking it up as soon as I did. Either way its a surprisingly fun game. Not perfect but the campaign is something very different from the previous Halo iterations which is cool and the firefight mode is pretty great. So I have been playing a fair amount of that. It also reawakened my hunger for achievements so I went through and 100%ed Shadow Complex and then started picking up relatively easy achievements that I had been missing elsewhere. Its kinda sad how much fun I have with those considering they are wholly worthless. Also played Demos for the following games recently: Transformers, Brutal Legend and Left 4 Dead 2. In order: Clunky, misleading and harder then before. So the only one of those that interested me enough to even consider is L4D2 which I doubt I will bother to pick up. However Assassin’s Creed 2, which is a week or 2 from drop date is a must buy for me. Probably in early January since I am busy with work but still…

Brings us to work. Right now I am not exactly happy with my job. Actually, considering that this is the end of the first week of November I am really unhappy with my job. Its still there and its paying me both of which are good things but aside from the fact that there is nowhere else for me to really go with it (all of that has been completely shutdown) I am just not liking the environment. They are offering some OT which is nice but its certainly not an all day thing and I think that they are going to offer us less then they have in previous years. So, long story short, while I am working there for the moment its not looking like its going to last, that’s for sure. There is other stiff too but its depressing and I don’t want to think about it right now.

Back to some fun stuff, last weekend was a Halloween party, wasn’t really feeling it until i stopped by the bar but it ended up being a pretty great time. Saw a number of friends which is always good and overall just had a great time. Need to see if I can score any of the pictures taken of me from somebody. I know there are some on facebook and the like but not sure how many or even who has them. Except for the picture of me in a compromising picture with a penguin. I know who has that…

Other then that, the days are getting shorter and so forth. It definitely feels like winter, sun is down by about 5 pm which just feels depressingly early. Still today is supposed to be in the 60s so I intend to go for a ride after I work out. Speaking of working out, I have somewhat fallen off in the past few weeks so I am intending to start that up in full swing more or less now. Still though, I have lost around a dozen pounds which is a goddamn great feeling. I am sleeping better, have more energy, etc etc etc. It all sounds like hype but there really is something to working out it seems. No complaints from me.

Other then that, life has been productive and over all just solidly good. So here is a kickin video for you to jam out to and think of me.

Then there’s cops then next of kin

So its been a few weeks since I took the time to update, so lets get started before I go find my trouble for the night.

To keep it recent, two weeks ago was a friends birthday party at whiskey junction, great time even with the various bits and pieces of drama. Overall the entire thing was pretty damn great and I was happy to be there. The following week I found out I had a cavity, so be it. Got that taken care of this past week and just waiting for the bill on that.

Last weekend was spent with wedding festivities and, more importantly, seeing a good buddy. Managed to play a ton of video games and see zombieland (I dug it) in addition to driving roughly 500 miles for all of the accumulated things that needed to get done prior to the wedding. Really it was just overall a great weekend, one of the best ones i have had in months probably. Or at least a month.

This week has been tiring, getting the aforementioned filling taken care of, drinks with an ex on Wednesday and being up too damn late, etc. Even if it is good to catch up, I am not built to run on 4 hours of sleep anymore, as I have had made clear to me recently. This weekend is quiet and its exactly what I need right now.

On the technology front, I bought a 2TB drive earlier today that is currently in the process of turning into my new time machine for my various mac computers. Set it and forget it for at least a year (or more) is my current plan. My varied (and tentative) plans for creating a media center that’s more functional then what I currently have is progressing in other words.

Work continues to be work which is actually a-ok with me at the moment. Needs to get done and keeps giving me a paycheck which is sorely needed these days.

Ok, this has been a sufficiently disjointed entry that I think I am just going to smile and let it go. Suffice it to say that right now life is damn good and let it roll at that.

Do it up so big kid, where did you go?

We made you grow up, we show you the ropes.

So whats been doing in the pat few weeks since I updated this thing? That’s a pretty good question with a really boring answer. Mostly working and video games with occasionally getting stuff done and then other fun things.

I bought and beat shadow complex, I might run through it one or possibly two more times in an effort to get the last two achievements, the game was hardcore worth the $15 to play it. It brought back all sorts of crazy awesome memories, the same way that Braid did. Both classic awesome side scrolling games that I loved the shit out of. I highly recommend both of them to anybody with a 360 who isn’t a soulless monster. Other then that, my 360 has been getting some love for battlefield but I haven’t been keeping up with it. Just not terribly interested in it at the moment. I have been debating about using it more as a media center but I can’t use it for hulu or as a DVR, really just as a front end for netflix or anything I have already. So its a shitty solution. That said, I am leaning towards picking up a newer intel mac mini and some other things to turn that into a solid media center.

I have been making some lifestyle changes recently and after 6 weeks I think I am willing and able to talk about them some. I started working out again, lightly, about 6, maybe 7 weeks ago. So far I have lost 8 pounds and am in some of the better shape then I have been since I graduated school. Stopped drinking every day as well which I am sure helps a ton with the weight loss. Either way I am back down below 150# and that makes me pretty happy, A few more pounds and I will be around where I want to be and can trade around my work outs some more. Overall, I am feeling better then I have been feeling on a consistent basis in probably a year or two. Now its not some nutso work out where I am going to damage myself but I am happy that there has been some positive results and that I am feeling better. There have been some other changes as well that I am not quite ready to bring up (frankly I doubt they will ever be brought up here) but suffice it to say, I am healthy, happy and well on a variety of physical aspects.

Work has continued to be, well, work. They continue to give me paychecks and I continue to do whatever it is that I have to do that day to get the paycheck. I don’t really see that changing this year and I know it hasn’t in years, so I should really stop bitching about it since I haven’t really done much to change it. When I have gone looking for jobs it hasn’t been with the gusto I need to actually land one. There is a part of me that just feels burned out with the industry and another part that just feels burned out with what I am doing. Either way, I am starting to put myself in the correct frame of mind to find something I actually enjoy doing that will (or at least might) provide me with new and interesting challenges. So lets drop that subject.

I have started reading again, reading through the Omnivore’s Dilemma again and its having some major impacts on my eating habits the way it did the first time I read it. Highly recommend it for anybody looking to change their diets around or at least have any idea what the hell they are putting into their body. Also reading through Lucky You but it hasn’t managed to grab me and next up on my list is The Eight which was lent to me by my parents about a month ago. Supposed to be good so i am looking forward to it. After that its going to be something trashy I suspect just for pleasure.

Riding has continued to be a joy. I am at somewhere near 5,500 miles for this year which is more then normal but less then hoped for. Still I might manage to make it to 6 or 7k before the end of October I suppose. I suspect I will hit 6k actually, but we will see when the time comes. Since its all for pleasure rather then need its not something that I feel that I have to do.

Anyway kids, whats new with you?
