completely pleased

So…. Its been a busy life recently. Busy as fuck in fact. Painfully busy. But all of that is behind me now which I appreciate.

Lets see, 11/12 was the last time I updated this. What has happened since then? I worked. Like gangbusters. Today is in fact my first day completely off since shortly before that last post. Irony being that I couldn’t sleep in after going to bed kinda early and being so used to getting up early every day. So I was still up by 6:30 or so and drinking coffee before 7. The good news out of all of that is extra money which will help finance a trip to somewhere warm this winter. Maybe Mexico, perhaps Argentina, Florida is a possibility. All I know is that in February or March I am heading somewhere nice for a few days at least dammit. I could use it. The other part of it all is that I am back to being without a boss which is pretty crap. I swear I go through managers the way that some people go through girlfriends. Crappy time of year for it to happen but so be it, I am still hoping that I will get a new job before too long. Unfortunately the economy still makes that difficult at best.

Things with the girl are going fairly well. Haven’t seen her in a while as she hasn’t doing the greatest health wise recently but she seems to be on the mend. We were supposed to celebrate our christmas this past week but actually her health got int he way of that so next week now. Mostly just looking forward to her being healthy again. Crappy time of year to be unwell to say the least.

I have been putting in the time on Battlefield 3 recently and have, at the end of the day, mixed emotions about it. Its great that they give you reasons to play the different modes. But I hate some of the modes (Squad deathmatch I’m looking at you!). Its great that they are trying some different things but they don;t work (Conquest assault). So much of the game is really well done but at the same time…. ungh. I dunno, I am sure i will keep putting the time in but sometimes its just goddamn painful to play. Part of that though is my tendency to play solo which makes it a much harder game. Also, I wish i could fly a vehicle to save my life in that game.

Tomorrow is when I get to do all of my Christmas stuff with family. On the one hand looking forward to it because I like my family. On the other hand… not that interested in most of my extended family. All well, whatever I guess.

I think I am going to go shower and find something to do for a while today. Maybe buy some beer or something. Spend some time disconnected for a few hours before I go back to battlefield.

Frame my wanted posters

So another long time between updates but at least this time I honestly meant to update earlier then this… it just didn’t work out due to being busy.

So a few qquick items: Lasik didn’t happen. I had a shift in priorities that week and since I had been iffy about it anyway… easy enough to put it off since its a lot of money for something I am not positive I want at this point. That does mean that I should buy a new pair of glasses at some point soon though. Still I put my bike up prior to making that decision and it seems to have been the right choice. Its gotten chilly here in MN anyway.

So what have I been doing with my newfound free time now that I ma not riding for the year? Well, netflix is the easy answer. Reading, traveling, computer and a small side of video games.

I restarted reading the Gunslinger series for no real reason other then that I was going to need something to read in the plane and man, I really think that Gunslinger is the best book of the series. The other ones are good but I really do believe that King did his best work with the first book. You can basically watch Clint Eastwood chasing the man in black in your minds eye. This is the sort of thing that makes me even more worried about the upcoming (rumoured) live action show that they have planned for HBO next year. I am also curious to see what King is going to do with Volume 8 which is supposed to drop next year.

Speaking of the plane, I flew out to DC with the lady for a long weekend since she had to be out there for work. 4 nights, 3 hotel beds etc. Still it was a great time. Friday Is pent wandering around the air and space museum and got to see all sorts of amazing (to me) things. Glorious Glennis (the Bell X-1 that Yaeger broke the sound barrier in) the spirit of St. Louis, the wright brothers flyer, the Apollo 11 command module along with Gemini 6 and Mercury 7, Gene Cernan’s moon suit, Gurgarin’s suit when he went up, etc. Truly for all of the times that I have gone to DC… I missed out in never having stopped by the Smithsonian prior to that day. Highly recommended, especially if you are a air or space geek like I am. Saturday we drove out to Rehoboth Beach in Delaware and had a relaxing night away from everything. I left my phone behind most of the time and that was nice. I did spend a little too long in the hot tub though. After getting lost on our way back to DC and driving around the peninsula for a while we made it back to DC and had a fairly quiet night. Then Monday it was flying back here. Over all a very successful vacation no doubt about that. We are already tentatively planning our next vacation for sometime this winter.

Speaking of the lady, things are going very well. I have never been in a relationship with somebody were we have traveled so well together which is pretty fantastic in its own right. Plus we just work well together. Sometimes her schedule bugs me since we don’t get to see each other as much as I might like but overall things are pretty phenomenal. And thats enough about that.

Work… its the busy as hell season for me. Lots of overtime available for me if I want to take it but thats not the main focus for me. So far actually its much less stressful for me then it was last year which is also fantastic. My big OT push starts tomorrow and there goes the majority of my time available for whatever. Still, its going fast and overall its a good thing. While I would still love a job that I am actually passionate about… at least I have one. And a paycheck is fairly important no matter how you slice it.

So… Battlefield 3. Its a good game although I find myself fairly frustrated most of the time that I play it. Particularly if I am playing solo. I will finish up the single player (maybe even this weekend) and I want to finish up the co-op missions with NutsySeph but I am thinking that I probably won’t drop the hours into multi that I did with BF:BC2. Its fun and all but unless I can play with friends I find myself much less interested. And its hard as hell to work our schedules out between Korea, Colorado, MN, and DC for any of the people that I play with at all regularly. I also have to wonder though how much of it is just my general slightly waned interest in video games. I figure its playing at least some part. That said there are some games I am looking forward to playing in the future: Arkham City, Assassins Creed Revelations, GOW3 for cheap. Actually that might be it. The other part is that I have noticed that my arthritis (or whatever it is in my hands, carpal tunnel perhaps) is acting up lately so its a bit harder to play video games. Surprisingly enough though typing is easier.

One other thing that I have started doing (again really) is working out. Hoping I can maintain at least 3-4 days a week at the Y. Between the elliptical, weights, swimming etc its just a damn good idea it seems. Hopefully it will help keep me energetic through the winter anyway since I have noticed flagging energy for the last week. I need to get myself back into a more trim shape and generally just more fit. It won’t be easy but its damn worth it. If I keep with it anyway, otherwise its just temporary pain for no real gain.

Thats probably enough rambling and more then I needed to do today on here but its … well its whatever I guess. So as I think about getting some holiday shopping done this year, just remember that the first of the year is coming up.

Ah, ah, child, way you shake that thing,

Gonna make you burn, gonna make you sting.

Ungh, another long break between updates. I was trying to do better about that but sometimes shit just doesn’t pan out. So whats been going on since the beginning of September? Not a whole lot is the short answer.

Lets start with video games. For some reason I have been feeling burned out on gaming for a while now, really since I finished Assassins Creed: Brotherhood. I have Battlefield 3 pre-ordered but thats really the only game that I am intending to buy for the rest of the year. Way too many games to finish, go back on, hell start. And for whatever reason it just hasn’t been a priority in my life recently. Maybe I am getting old, I dunno. I do know that my entertainment has always gone in cycles, video games, books, movies, the internet, etc. And right now I seem to be in an Internet phase with a dash of movies. Maybe Battlefield will bring me back to games, maybe it won’t, I dunno. But we are going to see what happens when it arrives.

The other tricky part about battlefield for me right now is that I have an appointment for Lasik the Friday after battlefield drops. Not sure yet whether I will go through with it or not at this point. Between the general fear of “crap happening to my eyes” and the fact that I have been wearing glasses for over half my life at this point… I just dunno. I have a few days before I have to decide though which is something good. Also good is that my parents have offered to pay some of it…. which brings it into the realm of possible.

Whats going to be particularly… Fun about Lasik is that I will be flying out about a week later. Supposedly thats fine but it does make me a little nervous. Well a little more nervous. Plus, I mean, what if I look like shit without glasses?

On the other hand, it would be phenomenal to never have to wear contact to ride again. And really, riding is the main reason that I am considering lasik in the first place. Before I bought my bike… I always considered it vanity surgery. And it is but… man I hate contacts when I ride. Speaking of riding, I was out yesterday for about 150 miles… damn was it windy as shit. Enjoyable but just exhausting to ride in wind like that. And I think its just about time to clean up the last few things on the bike, run a rag over her and get some bug guts off her and put her up for the year. Especially since if I do go for Lasik, my season is over after next weekend anyway. Plus its getting colder. And I can be a bit of a wimp at times I guess. I do know though that I am going to finally pull the trigger on some upgrades to the bike that I have been meaning to make for a while. Sometime after Christmas though, as who knows what, if anything, I will be getting from the family. Whatever is left will most likely be pricey after all…

Work continues to be more or less the same. Nothing real fun there, thats for sure… but like many people I am happy to have a job right now. Its been very interesting to watch the whole Occupy Wall Street Movement from the safety of my employed Ivory Tower. Still not entirely sure how I feel about the entire thing… or rather where exactly I fall on the fence perhaps. But politics is something for a different time. I will say however that it is damn nice to work from home for two days a week.

Things with the lady are going well, although its her busiest month and my next two months tend to be the busiest for me. Never makes things easy thats for damn sure. But its still worth it to make time, even if it means that missed part of the vikings disappointing loss to the bears yesterday. Oh wait, that one is a good thing.

Still been watching a lot of Sons of Anarchy. Its interesting as hell seeing where season 4 is going and I actually started rewatching the show at the beginning (thank you Netflix instant) to try and see what I missed. I always miss something after all. And if nothing else its interesting as all hell to see how quickly things devolve.

Other then all of that… things are mostly the same these days. So I am just going to say…. no homo but you’re looking pretty swoll.
